Danger: Distant Following

Written by KCC Devotion Team  |  Found in: Discipleship

“But Peter followed Him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome." Matthew 26:58 (NIV)

When things get difficult, it is second nature for most of us to pull back. Pulling away or pulling back is a defense mechanism we implore to protect ourselves. As Christians, we sometimes pull away from God when things get difficult. These difficulties may come in the form of busy schedules or problems at work and home. However, we fail to realize that distancing ourselves from Jesus is more dangerous than anything we may encounter while following Him. When we follow Jesus at a distance, we leave ourselves open to attacks from the devil. The devil waits patiently for any signs of weakness, and he will do his best to convince us that we are better without Jesus. Peter distanced himself from Jesus after Jesus’ arrest, and he suffered. Christians, continue to follow Jesus closely no matter what happens in your life.
